It is one of the most common practices of today to add more and more protein into one’s diet. Each new day, consumers are being presented with a new high protein alternative to attain their “protein goals” for the day. Although protein is beneficial for the body, there might be cases where it does more harm than good.

When excessively consumed, many of these high protein bars, cookies, smoothies, chocolates, and more can in turn start tiring the body with an overflow of resources. Proteins consist of amino acids that serve as the building blocks for muscle, bone, and tissue. However, it must be taken in moderation or the excess amounts in the body can be hard to get rid of.

What are good ways to obtain protein from food?

Instead of approaching a new protein snack every day, or even multiple times a day, it is recommended by nutritionists to focus on more natural resources for protein. This way, consumers can not only avoid the extra chemical components that come with such snacks, but also form a habit of including protein in their daily diet without extra help.

High protein foods one can include in their day to day cooking are plenty and easy to obtain. Some examples are foods that include moderate amounts of legumes, meat, fish, dairy products, eggs, and whole grain products. Instead of two 20 gram protein snacks a day, two well-balanced meals for protein might end up doing the body more good in the long run.

The more friendly sources of protein are also not too far from one’s kitchen; cottage cheese, salmon, scrambled eggs, lentils, chicken breasts, soy, beans, tofu, and more are the underrated protein heroes in most fridges today.
